IDF officer arrested on suspicion of secretly filming female soldiers

An Israel Defense Forces officer was arrested two weeks ago for alleged sex crimes, including secretly filming female soldiers. A silent order banning publication of the case was lifted on Wednesday.

At a military driving school at Bahad 6 base, Lieutenant-Colonel Dan Sharoney is suspected of crimes including breach of confidentiality.

For many years, at the various bases where she served, Sharoni allegedly filmed female soldiers using hidden cameras.

At least some devices were disguised as cell phone chargers.

According to a Channel 12 report, Sharoni allegedly committed similar crimes against civilian women.

He is also suspected of illegally transferring intimate photos of female soldiers on his own mobile phone.

He was produced in a special military court at the Kirya military complex in Tel Aviv on Wednesday.

Public broadcaster Cannes reported that at least 15 women are litigants in the case and many more are likely to be involved.

IDF Military Police investigators are handling the case.

One of the alleged victims wrote in a widely read article on social media: “Sharonie chose to secretly film more than 30 girls for five years. I’m one of them.”

She said she sees Sharonie as a father figure, a friend and an effective commander, but “that was all a lie.”

“A month ago, he dropped me off at base in his room,” she wrote. “When I entered Dan’s room, I found several chargers connected to outlets. I got a message from him saying don’t remove any charger.

“It turned out that everything was connected to cameras – a camera in front of the bed, a camera in the shower, a camera in the bathroom and anywhere else only a distorted person could think of.”

“The cameras filmed me 24 hours a day dressed, bathing, towel-drying, sleeping, straight to my officer,” he said, adding that other women had reported that Sharoni had hacked their phones and sent them to their phones. Filmed in residence. ,

The case pertains to two other high-profile incidents of alleged sexual offenses against women soldiers.

Gilboa Prison Commander Freddy Ben Schittrit appeared on Wednesday to confirm reports from 2018 that female soldiers doing their military service as guards in the prison had been “pimped” for Palestinian terrorists.

Last week, an officer from an elite naval unit was charged with three counts of raping another soldier in a case that shook up the service’s branch.
